Youth DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
Family And Community Services, Inc.
Since 1999 the Youth Development Program has worked with at-risk youth in Portage County, providing social skills, work readiness, mentoring activities and recreation programs.
AFTER-SCHOOL TUTORING
- Formed in partnership with Ravenna City School District
- After-school tutoring by licensed teachers for students at Ravenna High School
- Snacks and transportation provided
- LifeSkills training groups to reduce violence and promote healthy behaviors
ARTS ALIVE!
- After-school arts/culturally-based program for youth grades K-12 that is designed to improve self-esteem and attitudes toward family, peers, school and one’s community
- Specialized instruction in Yoga/meditation techniques, music and dance, healthy meal preparation, multi-cultural book club, drawing, painting and print-making, photography, acting and activities focusing on heritage and tradition
- Healthy snacks and transportation are provided, as needed
STEPS TO INDEPENDENCE
- Independent livings skills training for homeless youth and youth aging out of foster care.
- Case management and follow up to help transition to self-sufficiency
SUMMER WORKS PROGRAM
- Subsidized summer employment tied to youth’s career interests for up to 180 hours
- Job coaching track: placement and on-the-job coaching to maintain employment
- Project-based learning activities to reinforce key academic skills and prevent learning loss
- Resume development, job application completion, interviewing techniques and job-related social skills
WORK EXPERIENCE PROGRAM
- Work readiness track: resume development, job application completion, interviewing techniques and job-related social skills
- Job coaching track: placement and on-the-job coaching to maintain employment
- Subsidized employment ranging from around 115 - 200 hours at any of over 60 work sites
- Case management
YOUTH MENTORING PROJECT
- Long-term adult mentoring
- Work readiness skills provided individually or in group settings
- Case management
- Parent counseling for families who have an incarcerated youth returning home
